Royal feud: Meghan and Harry made bold move just a day after charity split with Kate cause

The Royal Foundation was the charity that Meghan and Harry once shared with William and Kate. They decided to resign from the Foundation on June 20 in a move that surprised royal observers and fans alike. According to records from the Intellectual Property Office, Sussex Royal was filed for trademark on June 21.

The trademark could cover a wide range of services, such as the use of the Sussex Royal name for public awareness campaigns, and services for education, charity, and social care.

In addition, the application encompasses a wide range of other products, including Sussex Royal-trademarked print materials, such as books, magazines, journals, and other publications, as well as clothes.

At the time of the split, Kensington Palace issued a statement, which declared that the Royal Foundation would become the “principal charitable and philanthropic vehicle for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge”.

The statement continued: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will establish their own new charitable foundation with transitional operating support from The Royal Foundation.”

Some royal experts suggested that the resignation was a sign of a falling out between the two couples.

However, BBC royal commentator Kristen Meinzer told Insider magazine that the split was ‘perfectly natural”.

She said: “I think it’s perfectly natural for a future monarch to have charities that are exclusively their own.

“One need only look at Prince Charles’ many charities — from the Prince’s Trust to the Prince of Wales’s Charitable Foundation.

None of these are the Prince Charles, Anne, Andrew, and Edward Foundation.

“And that’s fine.”

Ms Meinzer also denied that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were completely severing ties with William and Kate.

She explained: “Also, Will and Kate are not completely severing ties with Harry and Meghan.

“The four of them will still be working on other charitable projects together like Heads Together.”

Ms Meinzer claimed that running their own charity will give Meghan and Harry the freedom to pursue causes that are close to their hearts.

One such cause is that of women’s rights, with the BBC correspondent asserting that both Meghan and Harry are feminists.

She said: “Both Meghan and Harry are feminists who see women’s rights as human rights,” she explained.

“Harry, visiting the charity Tomorrow’s Women Wirral, proudly declared himself a feminist this year.

“Meghan has demonstrated her commitment to feminism since she was a child calling out Proctor and Gamble for depicting housework as women’s work.”

She added: “I’m not sure that Will has ever referred to himself as a feminist, and I think the Old Guard still sees feminism as a controversial word.

“Harry and Meghan clearly don’t.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are currently enjoying a six week sabbatical from royal duties and are believed to have spent Christmas in Los Angeles with Meghan’s mum, Doria Ragland.
