The Duchess of Cambridge, 38, appeared to ignore a slight wave from Meghan Markle, 39, as the tension between the royal couples was obvious to everyone, according to royal expert Katie Nicholl. She told the Channel 5 documentary, ‘Meghan & Harry: The New Revelations’ that Kate didn’t acknowledge Meghan and Harry whatsoever despite turning around to speak to Sophie, Countess of Wessex and Prince Edward. Following the service, Meghan flew straight back to Canada while Harry attended more royal engagements.
Narrator Jennifer Saayeng said: “By the time Harry and Meghan’s final royal engagement came around in March this year the tension was clear for everyone to see.
“At the Commonwealth event, Meghan appeared to wave at Kate but the gesture wasn’t acknowledged.”
Ms Nicholl added: “I was sitting behind William and Kate and Meghan and Harry two rows back with other members of the press at that service and there was absolutely a tension between the two couples.
“While Kate turned around to speak to Edward and Sophie Wessex, she just didn’t acknowledge Meghan and Harry at all and that was very obvious.”
Ms Saayeng continued: “Finding Freedom notes that after flying straight back to Canada, Meghan ‘at that point couldn’t imagine wanting to set a foot back into anything royal again’.”
Dylan Howard, the author of Royals at War said: “There is no doubt that certain plotlines sell newspapers and sell magazines and initially what sold was the remarkable story of these four young royals and the tight union they supposedly have.
“But in reality that just wasn’t the case.”
In the documentary, royal expert Emily Andrews explained how Harry had to “give up his country” for Meghan Markle.
The royal couple had announced their plans to step down as senior members of the Royal Family in January with a jaw-dropping Instagram post which sparked the now infamous Sandringham summit.
The Duke of Sussex met with the Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William to discuss further steps to his departure where he was told he couldn’t use his title in a professional capacity.
Ms Andrews said: “Harry has had to give up everything.
“He’s given up his family, his homes, his country everything he’s ever known and those military titles and Meghan’s right they meant so much to him.”

Narrator Ms Saayeng added: “And what about what Meghan has had to give up.
“Finding Freedom claims Meghan told a friend. ‘I gave up my entire life for this family. I was willing to do whatever it takes but here we are. It’s very sad.’
“Even so it’s said courtiers and some family blame Meghan for Megxit.”
Julie Montagu, Viscountess Hinchingbrooke said: “This girl who fell in love with a boy who happened to be part of the Royal Family and she gave up her whole career to move over here, to follow tradition and she literally couldn’t win.”
