While Princess Eugenie may have been regarded as the smartest of the family after obtaining a 2:1 from Newcastle University Meghan Markle has now taken that role. Meghan received a bachelor’s degree in Theatre and International Studies from Northwestern. The university may not be an Ivy League but it is still considered as one of the top colleges in the US.

In addition to her degree, Meghan also spent a semester out in Spain and is a talented calligrapher.

Following that short spell, the Duchess of Sussex travelled to Argentina where she entered at the American embassy in Buenos Aires.

Speaking recently on the benefits of higher education, Meghan said: “The experience of attending university allows students to graduate into the world with the social skills and intellectual prowess that will set them up for greater success; that happens not simply on a micro level in their own lives, but on a macro level.

“The choices they make and challenges they endeavour to overcome create deep and meaningful global impact.”

Meghan’s impassioned speech came from a letter she penned after becoming patron of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.

She also added that the importance of a university education is essential in empowering students from poorer countries to “generate comes for their families and communities”.

Princess Eugenie was regarded as the smartest member of the Royal Family after obtaining her 2:1 in English literature, history of art and politics.

Before then, however, the Princess received two As and B in her A-levels, making her for a time, that most successfully academic member of the family.

While the Queen may not have any formal educational qualification she has been described as having an “aptitude for learning” although most of her early schooling years were used to learn the constitutional monarchy.

Author of Young Elizabeth, Kate Williams told Good Housekeeping: “The Queen’s father had disliked school and her mother thought it was more important to have fun.

“Unlike her father, the Queen was and is very bright and had an appetite for learning as well as a razor-sharp memory.

“The lack of formal education didn’t harm her as she’s naturally analytical and something of an autodidact, as well as being hardworking – which we know now is just as important as raw brainpower.”

Princes William and Harry went to Eton.

William got 12 GCSEs and three A-levels in geography (A), history of art (A) and biology (C) and went on to get a 2:1 degree in geography from St Andrews University in Scotland.

As we all know, that university was where he met his wife, Catherine, who graduated with a 2:1 in history of art.

Harry chose a different path after getting 11 GCSEs and two A-levels (B in art and D in geography) and joined the army.

Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, attended Benenden school in Kent where she gained six O-levels, and three A-levels in English, history and politics.

While Prince Andrew attended Gordonstoun like his older brother, his academic choices were much like Anne’s – six O-levels and A-levels in English, history and politics.

Princess Diana, however, met with less success and failed all her O-levels, twice.
