Prince Charles and his eldest son Prince William are preparing to review the future of the Royal Family following a period which has seen the death of Prince Philip, as well as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle being stripped of their royal titles after quitting their duties. Charles, who is next in line to the throne, and the Duke of Cambridge will reportedly hold talks with the Queen over the coming weeks. This will likely decide whether the three most senior royals should continue being front and centre of events, or whether they should cut down their workload by handing other members of the Royal Family more responsibilities.

It has been a chaotic year for The Firm, who have lost three members after Harry and Meghan moved to the US, with Prince Andrew also stepping back from royal duties after causing controversy over his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

A royal insider said: “The question is whether you start off by deciding how many patronages and engagements there should be, and then work out how many people are needed to achieve them, or whether you decide how many people there should be, which will dictate how many engagements and patronages they can take on.”

Now in the latest Express.co.uk poll, readers have overwhelmingly backed a revamp of the Royal Family.

The poll, which ran from 10.30am until 8pm on Tuesday April 20, asked: “Do you support a revamp of the Royal Family after year of chaos?”

A huge 84 percent (2,886 readers) threw their support behind such a move, while fifteen percent (464 readers) disagreed and the remaining one percent (58 readers) were undecided.

Reacting to our initial story, one Express.co.uk reader wrote: “The royals definitely need to cut out the deadwood.

“The Sussex pair for a start need to be stripped of all titles etc.

“They are making the Queen look weak as though she’s frightened of them.

“The royals can’t continue to bury their heads to this in the hope the public will forget or forgive.”

A second person said: “If ‘revamp’ means rescinding Harry’s and Meghan’s titles, and continuing to omit the Duke of York from Royal duties, then OK.

“Let the Duchess of Cambridge, the Princess Royal and the Countess of Wessex contribute as much as they feel able; they are all brilliant at the job.

“Prince Charles should also have an eye for which of the younger Royals to encourage and which to put out to pasture.”

Another reader commented: “I support Prince Charles’ vision of a slimmed-down Monarchy, as long as he takes steps to have Harry removed from the line of succession and has his titles removed.”

A fourth reader added: “Direct line only – Queen, Prince Charles and Camilla, William and Kate, Prince George plus future partner. No more.”

Prince Charles is said to support a slimmed-down monarchy, originally with only seven royals carrying out appearances and duties.

Princess Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell recenetly told US Weekly: “Charles has made it quite clear that he intends to slim down the monarchy and reduce the number of full-time working members of the family to those in the immediate line of succession.”

Brittani Barger, the deputy editor of Royal Central, added Charles may press ahead with slimming down the monarchy now Meghan and Harry will not carry out duties.

She told the Daily Star: “I think Prince Charles is probably disappointed as he always had Harry and Meghan in his plan for a slimmed-down monarchy.

“Now, that slimmed down monarchy will have to be re-evaluated.”
