According to 2018 book ‘Meghan: A Hollywood Princess’ Meghan has been given two pet names by her family, one of which is relatively unknown – ‘Bud’. According to royal biographer Andrew Morton, another nickname her family calls her is ‘Flower’. Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland has also been known to refer to her daughter as ‘Meg’.

Prince Charles calls his daughter-in-law the bizarre nickname ‘Tungsten’ after the metal, which is apparently supposed to be an affectionate reference to her resilience.

However, there have been some slightly unflattering names for Meghan emerging too – such as ‘Duchess Difficult’, which Palace staff allegedly call her behind her back.

Disgruntled employees have also reportedly called her ‘Me-Gain’.

Perhaps the most surprising nickname is ‘Meghan’ itself – as Meghan’s real first name is Rachel.

The Duchess of Sussex has gone by her middle name for many years.

Meghan is not the only one to have nicknames in the Royal Family, as it was reported earlier this year that Prince Harry has scored himself three names related to fictional characters.

These names are ‘Flash’, referring to fictional army officer Harry Flashman, as well as ‘Potter’, a nod to the famous wizard’ and ‘Gromit’, referring to the animation comedy series.

It was also reported that Prince William cheekily calls Kate ‘Duchess Dolittle’, while she pipes back ‘Baldy’.

The pair called Prince George ‘Our little grape’ when Kate was pregnant.

Perhaps Meghan and Harry’s new royal baby, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, will also have a nickname soon.

A royal source told The Sun that nicknames are a way of relieving “family tension” as the royals are “not very good at communicating”.

They added that the royals also like to use them just to be silly as they have to be quite serious in their public lives.

The source reportedly said: “They can be a rather childlike family. They love to play games and give each other silly presents.”
