Mike Tindall has become the first ever member of the Royal Family to sign up for I’m A Celebrity, according to reports. The former England rugby player will reportedly be among the contestants taking part in the 22nd series of the ITV show in the Australian jungle.

A source told The Sun: “It’s a massive coup.

“Mike has had a box seat for some of the most important moments in royal history for generations.

“He is sure to be discreet, but his sheer presence means this series will be an absolute must-watch.”

Other famous faces tipped to be taking part in the series include singer Boy George, comedian Seann Walsh and DJ Chris Moyles.

An ITV spokesman insisted any names suggested for the show, which is presented by Ant and Dec and known for its Bushtucker Trails, are “just speculation”.

The spokesman added: “We’ll announce our line up for the new series nearer its transmission.”

If Mike is in the line up, producers will no doubt be hoping he opens up on the Royal Family.

Zara Tindall’s husband was part of the England rugby team who won the 2003 World Cup.

He tied the knot with the late Queen’s granddaughter in 2011 and the couple are now parents to Mia, eight, Lena, four, and one-year-old Lucas.

Mike and equestrian Zara are non-working members of the Royal Family and support themselves financially.

However they do live on Princess Anne’s Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire.

Over the years, Mike has become a popular member of the Royal Family despite not carrying out official duties.

He has attended key events including the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June and the late monarch’s state funeral last month.

Mike sometimes gives an insight into life in the royal fold in The Good, The Bad and The Rugby podcast, which he co-hosts with former players James Haskell and Alex Payne.

In a recent episode, he opened up on being “blown away” by the national outpouring of grief for the late Queen.

He said: “Zara loved the Queen beyond everything. Their connection with horses – the same with the Princess Royal – they had a real bond around that.”

Mike’s reported appearance on I’m A Celebrity comes after the disastrous It’s A Royal Knockout show for charity in 1987 which was the brainchild of Prince Edward.

Express.co.uk has contacted a spokesperson for Mike for comment.
