It was reported last week Harry and Meghan were told Archie would never become a prince by Harry’s father Charles. This could be due to the heir to the throne preferring a slimmed-down monarchy when he takes over from the Queen. But now it has been claimed Charles is unlikely to make the “unpopular” decision of removing the children’s titles as king.

Royal author Robert Lacey said: “I don’t think he will make the unpopular and hostile move of removing the royal status of his grandchildren.”

Mr Lacey also told PEOPLE he believes Charles is more likely to be focused on making his wife Camilla Queen instead of princess consort.

Charles is thought to have already decided to honour a rule made by King George V after he issued a Letters Patent in 1917.

It read: “…the grandchildren of the sons of any such sovereign in the direct male line (save only the eldest living son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales) shall have and enjoy in all occasions the style and title enjoyed by the children of dukes of these our realms.”

Harry and Meghan have previously spoken about their unhappiness over their son’s title.

During their bombshell interview with Oprah in March, Meghan said Archie was not given a royal title, which meant he would no longer receive taxpayer-funded security.

She also suggested the decision may have been due to the colour of his skin. Buckingham Palace later responded: “Recollections may vary.”
