The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expected to attend the Royal Variety Performance at the Royal Albert Hall, London, this evening. The televised variety show raises money for the Royal Variety Charity.

The performance this year celebrates 100 years of Patronage from the reigning monarch, which began with King George V in 1921, and also marks the 150th anniversary of the Royal Albert Hall.

William and Kate, both 39, will enjoy performances from musical stars including Ed Sheeran, Sir Rod Stewart and Years & Years, and the cast of Matilda the Musical.

The couple’s appearance at tonight’s event comes as Meghan’s interview with US chat show with Ellen DeGeneres is aired in the US.

A preview of the interview shows the Duchess of Sussex, 40, speaking about her life before her marriage to Prince Harry.

In the preview clip, the mother-of-two explains how she would travel to where the set of the Ellen Show is based to audition for parts when she worked as an actress.

She recalled: “I would park on gate three and I would scoot on over and the security guards here would always say ‘break a leg, I hope you get it’. So driving today was very different.”

Queen’s next public engagement ‘unclear’ warns expert

The Queen’s next public engagement is unknown following her health concerns, according to a royal expert.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams spoke to Express.co.uk about the Queen’s plans to attend public engagements and whether she would host Christmas.

When asked if the Queen would be seen in any public engagements in the near future following her absence from Sunday’s Remembrance service, Richard said it was “unclear” when this could be.

He told Express.co.uk: “The Queen knows how much people are looking forward to seeing her attend a public engagement and is aware that her presence adds a very special cachet to any event.”

He added: “She is currently, on the advice of her doctors, doing light duties, including her customary diligent daily attention to the red boxes containing government business.

“It is unclear when she will be able personally to attend events, in the meantime, she has proved herself a master of the virtual broadcast.”
