Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, will visit the Bahamas, Jamaica and Belize next month in an attempt to prevent more Caribbean nations from severing ties with the Queen. The last senior royal to tour Jamaica, Belize and the Bahamas was Prince Harry, in 2012 – a visit which can not be repeated since Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, walked away from their royal duties in 2020. The charm offensive comes at a critical time for the Queen, as Commonwealth countries debate whether they should follow Barbados in severing ties with the British monarchy. Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty magazine, suggested that the timing of the Cambridges’ tour could “strengthen the case for keeping the monarchy, at least in the immediate future”.

Meghan and Harry left scrambling after axing ties to royalty

Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’s efforts to establish a bold new brand were thwarted by big international headlines as they distanced themselves from the Firm, a Royal Family branding expert has said.

Cele Otnes, a professor of marketing specialising in how the Royal Family brands itself, told Express.co.uk: “Meghan and Harry had the rug pulled out from under them by Covid, with their attempt to try to build their brand here.

“Covid really yanked the headlines away.”

The co-author of “Royal Fever”, added that now: “Russia is yanking the headlines away.”

“China is yanking headlines away.”
