Royal family celebrate the christening of two month old Prince François

Grand Duchess of Luxembourg on 'reality' of royal life

Luxembourg’s Royal Family celebrated the christening of their newest member over the weekend, as little Prince François was christened at Fischbach Church. His parents, Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stephanie, who also have three-year-old son Prince Charles, looked on proudly during the ceremony, held just a couple of months after the baby’s birth on March 27, 2023.

Prince Charles, dressed in a pair of shorts with a white shirt and blue jacket, waved sweetly to photographers as the family arrived at the church for the service.

Princess Stephanie wore a pale pink suit as she carried out her baby son in his long white christening gown, while Prince Guillaume looked smart in a dark suit.

Luxembourg’s ruling Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, the little one’s grandparents, were also in attendance as was their daughter Princess Alexandra.

Princess Alexandra will serve as godmother to Prince François as well as being his aunt.

Princess Stephanie’s family were also present, as her brother Christian de Lannoy will be his nephew’s godfather.

Luxembourg’s archbishop, Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich, conducted the family’s ceremony as Guillaume and Stephanie looked adotringly at each other and their young family.

The heir to the throne of Luxembourg, Guillaume married his wife, then Countess Stéphanie de Lannoy, in 2012, with the couple holding both a civil and religious wedding ceremony.

Their son Charles was born on May 10 2020, followed by his little brother François who arrived on March 27 2023.

Both Guillaume and Stephanie, who speak several European languages between them, have spent time in the UK studying.

The Princess was a student at Sotheby’s Institute in London where she studied art history while her husband studied at both Durham University and Brunel University before receiving his bachelor’s degree from Université d’Angers in 2009.

He also trained at the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, as did Princes William and Harry.

Stephanie accompanied Guillaume to the UK between 2018 and 2019, when he undertook postgraduate training at the Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS) in London.

The couple are the heirs to the throne of Luxembourg and will succeed Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa.

The Grand Duke and Grand Duchess are parents to Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume, 41, Prince Félix, 38, Prince Louis, 36, Princess Alexandra, 32, and Prince Sébastien, 31. 

Their other grandchildren include Prince Félix and Princess Claire’s daughter Princess Amalia, eight, and their son Prince Liam, six, as well as Prince Louis’s two sons with his former wife, Tessy Antony de Nassau – Prince Gabriel, 17, and Prince Noah, 15.
