Oprah With Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special is up for outstanding hosted nonfiction series or special at the Emmys, which recognise excellence in US TV. But royal author Angela Levin hit out at the nomination, insisting that “truth matters”.

Ms Levin tweeted: “An Emmy is all about achievement or so I’m told.

“It was an achievement to get both Harry and Meghan to talk but what they said far less so.

“Surely truth matters?”

Oprah and the producing team will pick up a gong should the programme win.

It is up against My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman, Stanley Tucci: Searching For Italy, United Shades Of America With W Kamau Bell and documentary series Vice.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a set of explosive allegations about the Royal Family during their tell-all interview, which aired in March.

But a number of the claims have since been questioned or debunked.

The Archbishop of Canterbury was forced to deny that he secretly married Harry and Meghan in their “backyard” three days before their lavish royal wedding.

Justin Welby said he would have “committed a serious criminal offence” when he signed the wedding certificate on the day of their extravagant nuptials in Windsor if he had already married the pair.

And the royals made clear they did not agree with all of the Sussexes’ version of events.

A statement issued by Buckingham Palace shortly after the interview highlighted how “some recollections may vary”.

Harry and Meghan used their interview to make a series of damaging allegations against the Royal Family.

The couple accused an unnamed member of the family – not the Queen or Duke of Edinburgh – of making a racist comment about their son Archie.

And Harry laid bare his rift with his father Prince Charles and older brother Prince William – who furiously denied racism accusations against the royals in a rare outburst during a public engagement after the interview.

The Sussexes quit royal duties in March 2020 for a new life of personal and financial freedom in California.

Their Oprah interview plunged the monarchy into a fresh crisis just one year on from Megxit.

Harry returned to the UK for the first time since his royal departure weeks after the interview for Prince Philip’s funeral.

He made his second visit to Britain for the unveiling of a Princess Diana statue at Kensington Palace earlier this month.

Meghan remained in Montecito with their newborn daughter Lili and two-year-old son Archie.
