Sophie, Countess of Wessex has continued with many of her royal duties during the lockdown, undertaking charity work and video chatting with patronages and Royal Family members. Now, Sophie has been seen to have teamed up with Southampton FC’s charity Saint Foundation during the pandemic.

The Countess was also spotted delivering prescriptions to local residents.

The foundation thanked Sophie for her hard work, tweeting: “We were delighted to be joined by HRH the Countess of Wessex this week, who volunteered with us at @FareShareUK and on our prescription delivery service.

“A real privilege to shot The Royal Family how we are transforming lives in and around Southampton.”

Royal fans were quick to thank Sophie for her dedication, replying to the tweet with praise for the royal and the foundation itself.

One wrote: “Lovely and kind Countess of Wessex”.

Another said: “Wow! Amazing work” to which another user responded: “Superb isn’t she?”

Sophie has a very busy royal schedule, and this was explored in an interview with The Times last weekend.

The Countess spoke of her recent visit to South Sudan, and the work she does campaigning against sexual violence in conflict.

She was also asked whether she is now being asked to undertake more duties, given there are fewer working royals in The Firm now than there were a few months ago.

Sophie said: “We’ve all got our own little portfolios.

“I don’t see anything changing, but if we’re asked to do more … I don’t know because it hasn’t really happened.”

She added: “I am pretty busy already, so I’m not sure how much more I can do.

“There are only so many hours in the day. People may pay more attention to what I am doing, but I remain as busy as I have ever been.”

Three royals have departed royal duties in recent months, with Prince Andrew stepping down at the end of 2019, and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry saying farewell to royal life at the end of March.

Sophie has long been a hardworking member of the Firm, and said to be a favourite of the Queen, often chosen to accompany her to church.

Royal experts have spoken of how the Queen often picks Sophie as her companion to short trips to church on Sundays and Christmas Days.

Royal expert Victoria Murphy wrote in Town and Country Magazine: “Indeed, Sophie is often chosen to accompany the monarch by car to church at Sandringham on Christmas morning while other members of the family walk.”

Sophie herself has also shown her affection for the Queen, openly calling Her Majesty by a sweet nickname during a royal engagement.

Ms Murphy added: “In a speech at Buckingham Palace in October 2019 to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Trust, she called the Queen ‘Mama’ and told her she has been ‘so proud to share with you the work I have witnessed being carried out’.”

However, the Queen and Sophie have spent some weeks apart during the coronavirus lockdown, with the Queen isolating in her Windsor Castle home.

The family were due to be reunited this coming Saturday, for the summer celebration of the Queen’s birthday.

However, due to coronavirus and lockdown Trooping the Colour as we know it has been cancelled.

Instead, the Queen will observe a quiet celebration at Windsor Castle, with a military salute to commemorate the day.

Royal fans can watch the ceremony on BBC One from 10.15am in a special programme hosted by Huw Edwards.
