Meghan Markle is celebrating her 38th birthday today, which is the first birthday she has had since she welcomed her son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor came into the world and the second since she married Prince Harry. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are hugely popular around the world with 9.3 million followers on Instagram. Prince Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie is also very active on social media often sharing adorable pictures with her new husband Jack Brooksbank. But what five similarities do these royal couples have in common?

Prince Harry and Princess Eugenie held their weddings in the same church

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were married on May 19, 2018 at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

The chapel had previously been the venue for the weddings of Prince Harry’s uncle, the Earl of Wessex, as well as that of his cousin, Peter Phillips.

It was also the location used for the blessing of the marriage of Prince Harry’s father Prince Charles and his second wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall.

In October 2018, Princess Eugenie held her wedding to Jack Brooksbank at the same venue.

They both married commoners

Prince Harry and Princess Eugenie are both direct grandchildren of Queen Elizabeth II. 

Prince Harry is the son of the Queen and Prince Philip’s eldest son Prince Charles, while Princess Eugenie is the daughter of the Queen’s third child Prince Andrew.

When it came to marrying, each of them chose to marry a commoner, which means an ordinary or common person, as opposed to a member of the aristocracy or royalty.

Before she became the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle was an American actress.

Her down-to-earth nature made her a fast favourite with the nation and lead the couple to invite 1,200 members of the public to attend the wedding, which was watched by an estimated 24 million people around the world.

Princess Eugenie’s paramore Jack Brooksbank is the son of Nicola and George, an accountant and a company director, according to People magazine. 

Jack works in the hospitality industry as a wine merchant and a brand ambassador for Casamigos tequila.

In 2013, he told the Mail: “I want to create a chain of pubs. It has been my dream since I was 18. I have fond memories of Sunday roasts in pubs with log fires, and it’s something I want to recreate. I love pubs and often go to my local for a pint.”

Meghan and Jack have both been inspired by wine

Before Meghan Markle married Prince Harry she had her own lifestyle website called The Tig.

The name The Tig was inspired by her favourite type of wine

On the homepage of her site she explained why she chose the name: “Several years ago I had a sip of wine called Tignanello (pronounced ‘teen-ya-nello’).

“But let’s be real – in the states most people said ‘tig-na-nello’…or just plain old Tig.

“The Italiano of it all gets a little tricky, so the bartender kept it simple; it was a glass of Tig.

“So there I am, with very minimal wine knowledge and I take a sip of this wine.

“It wasn’t just red or white – suddenly I understood what people meant by the body, legs, structure of wine. It was an ah-ha moment at its finest.

“For me, it became a Tig moment – a moment of getting it.”

Jack is also a fan of wine and in fact owns his own wine merchant business.

The business is called Jack Brooksbank Ltd, and according to Companies House it was set up in 2016 with its headquarters in Borehamwood and he is listed as the director of the company.

Prince Harry and Princess Eugenie have both shared adorable birthday messages for their spouses

Prince Harry today made a touching tribute to his “amazing wife” on their shared Instagram account.

Alongside a new picture of the Duchess of Sussex the caption read: “Wishing HRH The Duchess of Sussex a very Happy Birthday”.

He then added a heartwarming personal message which said: “Happy Birthday to my amazing wife. Thank you for joining me on this adventure!’ – Love, H”.

Jack Brooksbank celebrated his 33rd birthday this year three days before baby Archie was born on May 3.

In a sweet tribute to her husband she posted an adorable picture of them both with the caption: “Happy Birthday to you, my one and only Jack. You are one of a kind and totally extraordinary. 

“Nine birthdays and counting…to quote you from a few months ago “you light up my life” #birthday”
