Zara, Princess Anne’s daughter, is widely considered one of the most down-to-earth members of the Royal Family. She married former England Rugby Captain Mike Tindall in 2011, and is a recognised athlete in her own right, too. The happily married couple now have two daughters — two-year-old Lena and six-year-old Mia.

However, the pair have been very open about the struggles they faced when trying for a baby.

Back in 2018, Zara and her brother Peter Phillips were interviewed by Audrey Ward for The Sunday Times, where she discussed her heartbreaking miscarriage.

Zara revealed: “I had a miscarriage in 2016 and afterwards loads of people wrote to me and Mike to say they’d been through the same thing.

“In our case, it was something that was really rare; it was nature saying, ‘This one’s not right.’

“For me, the worst bit was that we had to tell everyone — everyone knew.

“At the time, Pete was again very much the protective brother; he was very concerned about me, as was Mike.

“Everyone was.

“It was a time when my family came to the fore and I needed them.

“I had to go through having the baby because it was so far along.

“I then had another miscarriage really early on.

“You need to go through a period where you don’t talk about it because it’s too raw but, as with everything, time’s a great healer.”

Zara also mentioned her respect for her older brother, and “his role as a family man”.

She added: “Pete is someone who I’ve looked up to all my life.

“When I was growing up, he was a great person to have around, he was very level-headed, very calm, considered and grounded.

“He’ll be there no matter what I need.”

The siblings also share an additional bond compared to their other royal cousins, as they are the only grandchildren of the Queen who do not carry titles.

Their mother and father, Mark Phillips, decided they would be able to lead much more private lives away from the monarchy without an HRH status.

However, as she is a descendant of the Queen, her pregnancies were still announced publicly.

In December 2016, Zara and Mike’s spokeswoman explained: “Very sadly, Zara and Mike Tindall have lost their baby.

“At this difficult time, we ask that everyone respects their privacy.”

Just a month previously the couple had told the press they were “very, very happy” to be expecting their second child.

In September 2018, Zara also took part in a BBC Breakfast interview.

She said the “hardest thing” for her was that “everyone knew”.

The medal-winning equestrian added: “I have a very supportive family.

“It’s hard for the guys too. It’s very different for us [women], because we are carrying a child.

“But for guys, I think it’s this helpless feeling which must be incredibly high and horrible for them.

“But at the end of the day, he’s lost a child too.”

She acknowledged now that time had passed, she hoped they were “a stronger family”.
