Royal bombshell: Sophie, Countess of Wessex spotted with mystery guest at Wimbledon

The royal left spectators speechless as the pair were snapped taking in the surroundings of England’s greatest tennis tournament. But royal fans were quick to realise the teenager was actually the Countess’ goddaughter Amelia Carnegie Etherington. The 18-year-old is the daughter of Lady Alexandra Clare Etherington, the Queen’s second cousin, and Mark Fleming Etherington.

Amelia’s mum is one of the godmothers of the Countess’ daughter, Lady Louise Windsor.

Amelia impressed as she wore a patterned dress which was offset by a white blazer.

According to Yahoo, Sophie also dazzled by wearing a blue Peter Pilotto number.

Their appearance came amid embarrassment for the royal family following Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, and her visit to Wimbledon.

She was accused of breaking a longstanding Wimbledon tradition, with officials claiming the royal had been “a nightmare” when she visited.

The 37-year-old made two massive “faux-pas” while watching friend Serena Williams at the tennis championships last week before her son’s christening.

According to The Times, she made few friends when she appeared at the All England Club’s members’ area while wearing a pair of jeans.

Etiquette for the event means those in the area are expected to dress in formal attire.

Organisers also criticised her “self-regarding paranoia” after her bodyguards were forced to tell tennis fans to stop snapping the Duchess.

One member, who has been at the club for 30 years, remarked: “She’s not allowed to wear jeans.”

A source close to the All England Club said: ”She wanted to come incognito but there were problems.

“They couldn’t invite her into the royal box because she was wearing jeans but that didn’t really matter because all she wanted to do was come and watch Serena.”
