Royal bombshell: Kate Middleton met Prince William BEFORE starting university
Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, and Prince William are now the proud parents of Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. With a fourth pregnancy even rumoured to be on the cards, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are happily settled in family life and in their roles as senior royals. However, the fairytale story of their romance may actually be a little different from the one the world knows.
Royal biographer Katie Nicholl, whose books that deal with Kate and William’s relationship include “William and Harry”, and “Kate: The Future Queen”, made the startling revelation when she talked to American talkshow host Katie Couric in 2013.
In her 2010 biography “William and Harry”, Ms Nicholl writes how Kate and William’s initial meeting was at the University of St Andrews in 2001, when the pair shared university halls of residence together.
However, in 2013 the royal expert said she was “fascinated” to discover the timeline that every royal fan knows so well is actually quite different.
Host Ms Couric asked Ms Nicholl: “She had actually met Prince William before college?”
Ms Nicholl said: “Yes, this was really fascinating for me.
“I was speaking to some of her friends at Marlborough school, which was where she went before St Andrews.
“They said, nuh-uh, she didn’t meet him at St Andrews.
“She met him before she got there.
“While she was at school in her sixth form, through some of her friends, they knew Prince William and Prince Harry.
“So there was an early meeting.
“That, for me, that changed everything.”
However, Ms Nicholl is coy when Ms Couric asks her: “Did she have her sights set on him?”

Kate left Marlborough College in Wiltshire in 2000, after achieving her A-Levels in Maths, Art and English.
She went on a gap year, travelling to Chile and Italy before starting university in 2001.
William also took a gap year before starting his university studies.
Although the Prince also travelled to the same volunteer project in Chile, the pair did not actually bump into each other on their travels.
However, when they both arrived at St Andrews, the future Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were drawn to each other – although initially only as firm friends.
Royal author Marcia Moody, in her 2013 book “Kate: A Biography” writes: “The campus was small, and since Kate and William were on the same course and living in the same building, it wasn’t long before they met.
“Later, Kate recalled, ‘I went bright red and sort of scuttled off feeling very shy.’”
William revealed: “When I first met Kate I knew there was something very special about her.
“I knew there was something I wanted to explore there, but we ended up becoming friends for a while.”
University friend of the pair Laura Warshauer told Ms Moody: “They had fun natural banter very early on.
“They would tease each other. It was a twinkle in the eye – the delivery of what was said.”
The pair would marry ten years later, in their unforgettable 2011 royal wedding.
