Royal baby: Surprising way Meghan Markle and Prince Harry BROKE WITH TRADITION

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex broke with royal tradition by Harry holding baby Archie for his debut appearance for the public. New mum Meghan, 37, was glowing and looked on adoringly as Harry, 34, doted on Archie. She summed it up: “I have the two best guys in the world”. The family-of-three’s first appearance in front of the press was in stark contrast to how Harry, 34, and Prince William, 36, were unveiled.

When she posed on the steps of the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, Princess Diana cradled her newborn on both occasions, with Prince Charles standing by her side.

Years later, Sarah Ferguson followed in her sister-in-law’s footsteps when she showed off her daughters Beatrice and Eugenie outside The Portland Hospital.

Fergie was flanked by Prince Andrew for their official photo call outside the American-owned central London hospital.

The younger generation of royals seem keen to keep with this tradition, albeit not Meghan and Harry.

Kate, 37, was the one holding Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis when all three were brought out of hospital hours after being born.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge waved to the hundreds of photographers, journalists and TV crews gathered outside the Lindo Wing.

Meghan and Harry on the other hand had to face only three TV crews, one photographer and one reporter.

But Prince Harry is not the only royal dad to be left holding the bundle of joy.

Prince Edward cradled daughter Lady Louise and son James,Viscount Severn, when they were introduced as newborns outside Frimley Park Hospital, while Sophie, Countess of Wessex stood next to him.

According to the Daily Mail, Meghan, who was more than a week past her due date, gave birth in hospital – not at home as she had reportedly wanted to.

The duchess is believed to have chosen The Portland where childbirth packages start at £15,000 and mums are offered champagne and lobster to celebrate their new arrival.
