Royal baby: How Prince Harry mirrored Prince Charles in his new baby interview

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have just presented their newborn royal baby to the world for the first time, two days after their son’s birth. On the day itself, a beaming Prince Harry also appeared in front of the gathered press in a short but touching interview. The Duke of Sussex’s delighted and rather exhausted interview mirrored the moment in 1982 when his father Prince Charles told the world’s media of newborn Prince William’s arrival.

When asked how he felt, the Prince of Wales replied: “Obviously relieved and delighted, it’s marvellous.”

He joked: “It’s rather a grown-up thing, I’ve found, rather a shock to my system.”

However he confirmed: “He’s in marvellous form.”

Prince Harry, too, seemed in shock when he said on Monday: “How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension.”

Like Prince Harry today, who spoke about his new son’s hair, joking that he “had facial hair already”, Charles revealed that the newborn William was, “Fair, sort of blondish.”

However, when a reporter enquired if the new arrival took after his mother or his father, the prince replied: “Can’t tell yet!”

Similarly, asked who the baby takes after, the Duchess of Sussex said today: “We’re still trying to figure that out.”

Another journalist told Charles how crowds had been singing “Well done Charlie – give us another one”.

A rather surprised Charles answered: “Give us a chance!”

In another tidbit of information about their new arrival today, Meghan revealed: ”He has the sweetest temperament, he’s really calm.”

Unusually, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex gave their interview with father Harry holding the newborn.

It comes in contrast to the first glimpses of royal babies, including Kate Middleton and Prince William’s children, and William and Harry themselves, which were given with the infants in the arms of both their mothers and their fathers.

The world still awaits a name for the latest royal arrival, who is expected to be given the surname Mountbatten-Windsor and receive the title Earl of Dumbarton.
