Royal baby due: Will Meghan Markle give birth today as Duchess nears due date?
Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, told a fan she was due at the end of April or early May, meaning she really might be having the baby any minute now. Meghan has retreated from the public eye and Prince Harry is staying close to home. But the notoriously private couple have let on little about their arrival, and have said they intend to “celebrate privately as a family” before sharing the news.
This weekend, a fan approached Harry’s brother, Prince William, during his visit to New Zealand and asked: “Any sign of the Royal baby?”
The Duke of Cambridge replied: “I haven’t got my phone on me. I have no idea! You guys will find out before I do at this rate!”
So it seems we’re all still in the dark about the arrival of baby Sussex.
But a look at the latest odds indicates we’ll be popping the champagne over the long weekend ahead.
Coral bookmakers now make it 10/1 the baby will be born today but the odds on a Saturday or Sunday arrival are just 4/1.
Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead said: “We think it’s a case of any day now for the Duchess and the latest Royal baby is surely just days away now.
“It’s odds on to be born this weekend and Royal fans are brimming with excitement.”
With Meghan Markle due any day now, Ladbrokes have also priced up the most likely date she gives birth.
As things stand, May 2 is 4/1 favourite in the betting, while 1/6 says the Duchess of Sussex welcomes her first born into the world sometime this week.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “The wait to welcome the Royal Baby goes on and with Princess Charlotte’s birthday fast approaching, there’s every chance Harry and Meghan’s first born will share a birthday with their cousin.”
Other dates which have emerged as the punters’ favourites include April 30, May 1, May 3 and May 4 at 9/2.
On Sunday, Prince Harry made an appearance at the London Marathon where he cheered on runners and met with volunteers.
The Duke of Sussex watched some of the runners and presented medals to the winners.
His attendance was a pleasant surprise, after the Duke decided to wait and see on the day if it looked like he could head out for the day.
A palace source told PEOPLE: “Harry had always planned to go but with the birth of his child due it was not announced in advance in case he was no longer able to attend.
“He was pleased he was able to attend.”
Harry also surprised fans on Thursday when he and sister-in-law Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, teamed up for the Anzac Day service at Westminster Abbey.
Kate was expected to attend, but Harry’s arrival was a surprise.
The in-laws looked happy as they undertook their first engagement alone together in years.
The outing came amid news of Kate’s intervention in the rift between Harry and William.
Royal sources say the brothers’ relationship has become “markedly cooler” in recent months, following a “disastrous row that could not be defused” which recently boiled over.
And Kate has reportedly stepped in to cool the flames of anger, advising Harry to “offer an olive branch” to William after the Easter service with the Queen in which the brothers appeared to actively ignore one another.
The source said: “Kate is acutely aware of the importance of William and Harry getting along, not just because of perception but their collective responsibility to the monarchy.”
