Royal anniversary: Freak event almost ‘RUINED’ Meghan Markle’s special gift from Harry

For Prince Harry, it was fate he met and fell madly in love with the American former actor thanks to a mystery mutual friend who introduced them. The romance blossomed quickly and despite hailing from different backgrounds the grandson of the Queen and the US divorcee soon became inseparable. When interviewed on the day they announced their engagement Harry described how destiny appeared to intervene in their lives.

He said: “So the fact that I fell in love with Meghan so incredibly quickly was sort of confirmation to me that everything – all the stars – were aligned. Everything was just perfect.

“It was this beautiful woman just sort of literally tripped and fell into my life, I fell into her life.”

When news of their relationship broke several months later, smitten Harry was described as being happier than he had been in years.

Naturally the head-over-heels soon-to-be Duke wanted the very best for his bride ahead of their lavish wedding at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.

But in a cruel twist of fate, a freak weather event almost ruined his plans, according to the NZ Herald.

In a heartwarming gesture Prince Harry offered to help choose Meghan Markle’s bouquet of flowers from their own garden for when she walked down the aisle.

However, nature had intervened and threatened to “ruin” his plans to pick out the perfect bunch.

An unexpected flurry of snow over the Easter period dubbed the ‘Beast from the East’ meant their flower beds were not as full as they had hoped in the run-up to the big day.

Meghan was keen to adhere to the 161-year-old tradition started by Queen Victoria which stipulates royal brides always carry a sprig of myrtle from a particular bush on the Isle of Wight in their posies when they get married.

But she also wanted to include Diana’s favourite flowers, forget-me-nots, in her bouquet.

The now Duchess of Sussex said in a series of interviews recorded for a Windsor Castle exhibition of her wedding dress: “We have a very small garden here that we had been planting things in the fall.”

According to the NZ Herald, Prince Harry said: “We didn’t have as many flowers in our little garden as we had hoped for because I think it snowed at Easter.

“That kind of ruined the whole thing!”

But explaining how her groom salvaged the situation Meghan said: “What was really special, I think, was that the morning of the wedding Harry went in and he picked some flowers to go into my bouquet which was really beautiful and something that makes it sentimental and really meaningful.”

But that was not the only touching detail the couple included on their big day.

According to Harry: Life, Loss And Love by Katie Nicholl, Meghan’s Givenchy gown also included a piece of fabric from the frock Meghan wore on her first date with Harry.
