Royal anguish: Why Prince Charles ‘frowned upon’ Harry and William relationship – insider

Prince Charles did not agree with his two sons, Prince Harry and Prince William, being so close to palace staff, former royal protection officer Ken Wharfe claimed. He said the Prince of Wales was perplexed over employees being a part of their everyday royal life. However, Mr Wharfe, who was Princess Diana’s personal protection officer for five years, says the Princess of Wales could not have disagreed more with her husband.

He said: “William and Harry were very much involved in everything that happened at Kensington Palace and Highgrove and this was sometimes frowned upon by the Prince, who couldn’t believe that the downstairs staff were part of their life.

“He was of the opinion that the chef’s place was the kitchen, the policemen in their rooms, the chauffeur in the garage.

“He believed they shouldn’t be part of the children’s everyday life.”

Mr Wharfe went on to explain why the “People’s Princess” wanted her children to feel like the staff were part of one big family.

He told the Daily Mail: “This was alien to Diana.

“Having met her late father, Earl Spencer, I know what he wanted was for everyone to be part of this big family.

“Prince Charles was too royal to want that to happen, but in the end I think he relented because it was a it of a lost cause for him.”

It was not the last time Harry and William’s actions would annoy their father either, according to claims.

Royal insider Carolan Brown claims, when they were young, the two boys set off a stink bomb in Charles’ office.

She revealed: “One day William and Harry let a stink bomb off in the hall after Diana had taken them to the joke shop, and then they let another off in Charles’s office.

“He went absolutely mad, but Diana just laughed.”

It is well-known that the late princess enjoyed practical jokes on other family members.

According to former royal butler Paul Burrell, Harry has inherited that “naughty side”.

Speaking in a recently unearthed clip from documentary: “Princess Diana: The Quiet Revolution,” Mr Burrell said: “William, although he looks like his mother, he is more like his father.

“He’s studious, very careful, he’s very respectful, he’s duty-bound.

“Harry, on the other hand, is a hybrid of the Spencer’s red hair and the Windsors but he has his mother’s naughty streak.

“Harry is the fun guy, Harry was always the boy that would take apart the television set, the video recorder, he would have them in bits, and would want them to put it back together again.

“Harry was always the soldier, William was always the general.”

Prince Harry has also continued his mother’s legacy, raising awareness over Aids and homelessness issues across the world.

Mr Burrell said the boys were “the centre of her world”.

He added: “She loved to have fun, she loved to giggle, she loved to play practical jokes.

“And she loved nothing more than cuddling up with her two boys, watching TV and watching game shows and soap operas.”
