Rotten fish dumped outside restaurant in ‘Mafia-style sinister message’

Crates of stinking rotten fish were dumped outside of a London restaurant in what residents think might be a Mafia-style warning.

The smelly sea-food was dumped outside a French restaurant in Angel, north London on Monday and was still there the following day.

It has been stinking out residents who have complained to the council about the stench, but that still doesn’t answer why the fish was left there.

According to one neighbour the crates were left there on Monday afternoon outside of Le Mercury, but nobody saw who dumped them.

One neighbour said: ‘I wish you guys could smell this rotting fish, this is horse head in your bed level sh**.’

The pile was found in Almeida Street, however when one resident rang the Le Mercury restaurant staff claimed it has nothing to do with them.

They said that it was related to Radici – an Italian restaurant nearby – however it has been closed since January.

A quick Google shows that leaving a dead fish on your doorstep was a sign used in Italy by Mafia bosses – to show ‘death was at your door’.

It was essentially a message to say, ‘you will sleep with the fishes if you don’t stop what you were doing’.

Since they were first left out, the dumping was reported to the council, who have left stickers on the boxes and said it is ‘investigating this illegal dump.’

However, mystery still surrounds the actual reason the fish were left in the street, whether it was a mix-up with the delivery, a terrible prank, or a more sinister message.

Le Mercury, Radici and Islington Council have all been contacted for comment.
