Rock band Queen now richer than the ACTUAL Queen with £445million fortune

Brian May, 71, Roger Taylor, 69, and John Deacon, 67, have a combined £445million fortune, while the monarch is worth £370million, according to the Sunday Times Rich List. It is the first time the band’s wealth is larger than Her Majesty’s.

The Queen topped the list for five years from 1989 to 1994 but a change in the rules means the Crown Estate and the royal art collection are now excluded from her assets as she does not have control over them.

This year, the three rock stars pocketed an estimated extra £25million each following the huge success of biopic Bohemian Rhapsody which further boosted Queen’s popularity.

Guitarist May and drummer Taylor were consultants for the film which follows the rise of the band and the life of legendary lead singer Freddie Mercury, who died at the age of 45 in 1991 from Aids-related pneumonia.

The movie, which was released last October, is close to reaching $1billion (£759million) in worldwide ticket sales.

It has won a string of awards, with Rami Malek scooping the best actor Oscar for his portrayal of Mercury.

Queen’s hits also bring royalties in and Bohemian Rhapsody was recently named as the most streamed song from the 20th century.

May’s fortune has risen to an estimated £160million in this year’s rich list from £135million in 2018.

And Taylor’s wealth has increased from £130million to £155million.

Deacon, who now lives a private life, has a fortune of £130million.

The bass player, who penned Another One Bites The Dust, is back on the list for the first time since 2006.

The Sunday Times Rich List ranks the UK’s 1,0000 wealthiest people and families.

Last year, the Queen came in at number 344, with her fortune at £370million.
