Robbie Hisgrove jailed for biting off chunk of man's ear in kebab shop
Robbie Hisgrove, 24, disfigured his victim in the early hours of 23 December last year.
Prosecutor Martin Ivory said the defendant felt the man was upsetting a woman inside a kebab takeaway shop in Norwich.
He admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent at an earlier hearing at Norwich Crown Court.
Noting Hisgrove was under the influence of alcohol at the time, Judge Andrew Shaw told him: “You have disfigured him for the rest of his life and each time he catches a glimpse of himself in the mirror it will be a reminder of when you, a complete stranger, bit off part of his ear.”
Mr Ivory said the victim had been embarrassed by his injury resulting from the attack in Prince of Wales Road, in the heart of Norwich’s nightclub district.
He said Hisgrove was in the kebab shop when he intervened in an incident which did not involve him because he “felt a female within the premises was upset by a conversation happening between her and the complainant”.
Mr Ivory said: “He intervened on her behalf, became very close to the complainant and for reasons known only to himself found himself sinking his teeth into the man’s ear and tearing a portion from it.”
Gavin Cowe, defending, said: “The point of contact between teeth and ear was a couple of seconds at the most.”
He said the attack was “impulsive” and Hisgrove expressed remorse to police at the scene. He also had no previous convictions.
Hisgrove, of Norwich, wept as he was taken down to the cells.
