Rio Ferdinand and wife Kate Wright have announced that they are expecting their first child together.

Revealing the happy news on Instagram, the couple shared a video of Ferdinand’s three children celebrating after being told their step-mother was expecting.

“We got our wish, another Ferdinand on route!!” the former England defender, 41, wrote.

“I can’t wait to go through this whole pregnancy together and then bring our little human into this world.”

In her own post, reality star Wright, 29, said: “The crazy house is about to get a little bit crazier.

“Every time I watch this it makes me cry, the best reaction. Baby Ferdy, we are all so excited to meet you.”

The news of the pregnancy comes nine months after the couple tied the knot in September last year with a ceremony in Turkey.

They have been in a relationship since 2017 and got engaged a year later with the help of Ferdinand’s three children – Lorenz, 13, Tate, 11, and Tia, nine – from his marriage with his late wife, Rebecca Ellison.

Ellison died in 2015 after being diagnosed with breast cancer for a second time. She was aged 34.

Among the stars to congratulate the couple on their news on Thursday was several of Wright’s former co-stars on The Only Way is Essex.

Georgia Kousoulou wrote in the comments: “Aww this is so special,” while Ferne McCann added: “Oh wow this is amazing, congratulations.”

Ferdinand also received congratulations from the sporting world on his post, with comments from Middlesbrough manager Jonathan Woodgate and Newcastle player Jacob Murphy.
