REVEALED: How Prince Charles reacted to Princess Diana’s tragic death

In 1996, Prince Charles and Princess Diana divorced before, just one year later, Diana was tragically killed in a car crash in Paris. The Prince of Wales was notified almost immediately after her death was confirmed, at around 3am on August 31, 1997. In 2015 YouTube documentary, “The Madness of Prince Charles”, the narrator claims thatwhen Charles went to bring Diana’s body back from Paris “he appeared to maintain his composure”.

Speaking in the documentary, life coach Fiona Harold discusses his state of mind at the time of Princess Diana’s death.

She said: “His face carries a deep sadness. He looks downcast, [it is] almost etched into his face. You do see the years of turmoil and sadness.”

Royal author Tina Brown who wrote The Diana Chronicles and appeared in 2017’s documentary “Diana: 7 Days That Shook The Windsors” described the impact of Princess Diana’s death on Charles.

Ms Brown said: “The news hit him hard. He was worried about the fallout with the public and the impact on their sons William and Harry.

“He was absolutely distraught. He fell apart.

“He knew, instantly, that this was going to be a terrible thing, that he will be blamed, that they [the Royal Family] will be blamed, for the death of Diana.”

When Prince William and Prince Harry’s mother died in 1997, it fell on Prince Charles to break the news to his young boys.

Prince Harry said in 2017 BBC documentary Diana, 7 Days: “How you deal with that, I don’t know.”

Harry added: ”One of the hardest things for a parent to have to do is to tell your children that your other parent has died.”

Charles was also “deeply worried about Camilla”, according to a 2017 article by MailOnline.

Julia Cleverdon, who worked for the Prince for more than 30 years told MailOnline: “That must have been an appalling period for her, and I thought she was courageous and humble and decent.

“He was in agony about it — he really, really was.”
