Residents have today spoken of their horror after a “targeted” shooting at a house on an estate.

Police have today increased patrols in Moston, Manchester, after shots were fired at the property.

No one was hurt but officers say the shooting was “targeted”.

It happened at 9.45pm and today residents told of their panic.

One woman on her way to work said it was “shocking” to see the scene on her regular walking route, Manchester Evening News said.

A dad, who lives on the suburban street, said: “I’m not sure what happened but I heard a shot last night. We have been speaking to police about it but we don’t know much more than there was a shot.”

Another resident said: “The police have just knocked everyone’s door asking for statements. There is now a helicopter in the area. We were asked to remain inside.

“The gunshot was very clearly heard. However, by the time people were able to look outside we couldn’t see anyone. So we are unsure whether the person or people that fired the gun were on foot or in a car.”

A man delivering newspapers this morning said: “I’m not sure what has gone on, just came to deliver the papers then saw this (large police scene).”

The cordon stretches across multiple access roads to the street and is expected to remain in place all day.

No one has been arrested in connection with the shooting.

Speaking today, Sam Blackwood, of Greater Manchester Police’s City of Manchester district, said: “Extra officers have been deployed to Moston to complete extensive enquiries to arrest those responsible and to provide reassurance to members of the community who are concerned by this news.

“Though we are in the early stages of our investigation, we have information to suggest that this firearms discharge was targeted. I would like to reassure the public that we are treating this very seriously and doing everything we can to protect residents and investigate this incident.

“Officers are following a number of lines of enquiry but I ask anyone with information to contact us or Crimestoppers. Anyone with information should contact GMP via 0161 856 3882 quoting 3269 26/09/22. Information can also be shared anonymously via the independent charity – Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
