Rescue centre started food bank for dogs and one selfish person took the lot

A dog owner has realised what a selfish A-hole they are after taking the entire contents of a charity food bank.

The unidentified woman took around £230 in food that was left out by the Freedom Dog Field rescue centre in Keelby, near Grimsby in Lincolnshire.

Erica Fox, owner of the centre, said she was heartbroken to see the entire contents get taken by one person on December 5.

However, in an apparent change of heart, the woman has now returned around £90 worth of food after confessing and contacting Erica on social media.

Erica said: ‘They’ve done us a massive favour, to be honest.

‘At 3pm when I left my house, I noticed a poo bag on my grass outside, and I knew I’d put poo bags in the box, so I went and had a look.

‘It was completely empty except for three sachets of cat food, a tin of dog food and a bag of biscuits.

‘I was absolutely heartbroken. I cried. They literally took everything and I couldn’t believe the greed of some people. Two of the bags of food were £70 each because it was special dietary food, which some people really need for their pets.’

Despite not getting all the food back, Erica says it is better than nothing and she is grateful for the woman’s honesty.

She has now said that she’ll only fill the box with a small amount of food from now on.

Since the incident, Freedom Dog Field have been inundated with donations from people living nearby who want to support them.

Erica said: ‘I just want to say a massive heartfelt thank you to everyone who has donated, especially in these hard times.

‘I wish people wouldn’t feel embarrassed about coming to us for help. We have so much stock, please make use of us.’
