Rees-Mogg reveals the ‘EU is evolving’ post-Brexit vote and WARNS against May Corbyn deal

Leave supporter Jacob Rees-Mogg issued the warning over Brexit talks between Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn. The European Research Group leader added the EU isn’t the same as it was in 2016 and was “evolving” .While hosting LBC Mr Rees-Mogg spoke to caller Shane who expressed his anger towards Theresa May and the current Brexit situation.

The caller began by saying: “I am so frustrated, I am a staunch Brexiteer and I feel we have been absolutely betrayed.

“I am sick to death of people telling me I didn’t know what I was voting for.

“I knew exactly what I was voting for, and in the words of Theresa May, nothing has changed.

“I do wish, people like yourself who have enormous sway, not only within the ERG and the Conservative party but the public at large… I feel that you don’t articulate more clearly that we are not comparing the EU situation as it is now but we are on a road to somewhere that is absolutely different to what it is now.

“That I feel is not articulated, it is not made clear, that is hugely frustrating, one of the many frustrations.”

Mr Rees-Mogg reflected on the comments from the caller and said the “EU is evolving” and has been changing since the Brexit vote in 2016.

Mr Rees-Mogg and other Brexiteer MPs have often claimed that the EU has revealed its “true colours” during the Brexit negotiations.

The Leave supporting MPs would emphasise the importance to reflect on the language used by EU figures like Jean-Claude Juncker and Donald Tusk regarding the UK over the last three years.

The LBC host then went to a final caller, introduced as Eddie from Belford and asked whether the local elections were heavily impacted by Brexit.

The LBC caller replied: “Yes, I do think it is down to Brexit, it influenced how I and my wife voted.

“I just have a question Jacob, what is going to happen now? I definitely don’t think it is going to work out with Labour Brexit talks and everything.

“What are we waiting on? What are all the people waiting on from the Conservative party?

“What plans do you have, are we waiting until Theresa May resigns and if she doesn’t what happens?”

Mr Rees-Mogg quickly replied: “I have a nasty feeling that the Tories and Labour will cobble together a Theresa May-Jeremy Corbyn deal.

“And I don’t think that is a very good idea.”

Theresa May has come under fire from her own party and Brexiteers who are against the cross-party Brexit conversations that are ongoing with Labour.

Fears surrounding this focus on the possibility of a May and Corbyn deal including a customs union, an element that Brexiteers do not consider leaving the European Union.
