Queen's Speech shows monarch is 'still head of state' says Vickers

The Queen will address the House of Lords later for her annual address as part of the Queen’s Speech marking the State Opening of Parliament. But it will be the Her Majesty’s first address without her doting husband, Prince Philip, who died at the age of 99 last month, and the first major royal outing without him too.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast, royal author Hugo Vickers led a shining tribute to the duty and service of The Queen ahead of her annual address for the State Opening of Parliament.

Mr Vickers said: “The Queen is coming out to open Parliament basically about a month after the death of her husband.

“This is very reassuring because it shows that she is going to continue as our head of state.

“Keep busy, keep serving the nation. Exactly as she has done since 1952.”
