The Queen and Prince Philip have placed themselves in “virtual self-isolation” in Windsor Castle, according to royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams. Both senior royals are well above the age of 70, placing them in the “high risk” category during the coronavirus pandemic. Mr Fitzwilliams spoke to Express.co.uk about why the monarch is so “pleased” to have the Duke of Edinburgh with her now.
He said: “The phrase being used to describe their predicament is virtual self-isolation.
“They obviously have a minimum select staff.
“They will be abiding by Government guidelines which is the phrase being used.
“In that sense, the Queen will be pleased to have the Duke with her as they constitute a household.”
Mr Fitzwilliams continued: “Her dresser and confidant Angela Kelly is reportedly there.
“The message to send across is that they are abiding by Government guidelines in virtual self-isolation in Windsor Castle.”
Paul Whybrew, who has worked for the royals for many years, is also present.
Mr Whybrew was responsible for dealing with the 1982 Michael Fagan break-in.
The Queen left Buckingham Palace for Windsor in mid-March before the official lockdown restrictions were implemented.
She was driven to Windsor with her corgis.
Prince Philip flew in from Sandringham via helicopter to be with her.
