Terrified Reading Festival revellers were crushed against barriers when queuing for a silent disco, according to witnesses.

Many young people complained on Twitter about a ‘stampede’ as they queued for the event last night.

Footage shows festival goers rushing through the ziz-zag queue and one reveller climbing up a pole before falling down.

One student told the Mirror: ‘I didn’t feel safe, I felt like I could drown in a sea of people.

‘I saw people getting lifted out, suffering panic attacks.

‘I was scared for our safety.

‘People were getting crushed against each other and the barriers.’

Thousands of people are set to attend the three-day festival over the Bank Holiday Weekend, which is being headlined by the 1975, US rapper Post Malone and the Foo Fighters.

Festival organisers tweeted last night that the silent disco arena would be closed due to ‘technical issues’.

Several Twitter users hit out at the security arrangements for the disco.

One wrote: ‘Check out your crowd control at the silent disco.

‘Just heard from some very scared and upset teens about being crushed trying to get in.

‘The barriers broke and security not effective.’

Another said: ‘Absolutely unacceptable crowd control at the silent disco at Reading Festival.

‘My girlfriend was just crushed underneath a metal barrier and then trampled by the crowds.

‘Is now being carried to medical area by one of your security team.’

The organisers of Reading Festival have been approached for a comment.
