Rapist black cab driver John Worboys faces dying in jail for four more attacks

He targeted women who hailed his cab and drugged them in order to sexually assault them.

In 2009, he was jailed indefinitely for public protection with a minimum of eight years, for sex attacks on 12 women.

Police believe Worboys, who now uses the name John Derek Radford, may have carried out more than 100 rapes and sexual assaults on women in London between 2002 and 2008.

One of his victims, who can only be identified as DSD, said: “I was completely in shock that he pleaded guilty after everything he has put his numerous victims through over the years.

“Whilst I can’t help being cynical about his motives I am pleased that his victims have been saved the trauma of a court case.”

DSD was one of two women who won a landmark High Court ruling to reverse the Parole Board’s decision to release Worboys last year.

Worboys was never prosecuted over the allegations made by DSD, but he was found by a High Court judge to have committed offences against her.

Following his latest conviction, a lawyer representing some of his victims called for a review of all other allegations.

Richard Scorer, of Slater and Gordon, said: “Worboys’s guilty plea will hopefully bring some relief to these victims in that it has spared them the further ordeal of a trial.

“I only wish the same could be said for the dozens of other women who found the courage to report very serious allegations, only for these to be dismissed. It is appalling that it was left to victims to fight tooth and nail to bring Worboys to justice in the first place.

“In light of today’s plea, I would again urge that every allegation against him should now be reviewed again. It is the very least his victims deserve.”

Worboys, 62, from Enfield, north London, appeared via video link from Wakefield Prison, wearing spectacles and a light grey and green shirt.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of administering a stupefying or overpowering drug with intent to commit rape or indecent assault.

He admitted two further charges of administering a substance with intent to commit a sexual offence.

Adjourning the case to September 2, Mrs Justice McGowan said the maximum sentence Worboys faces is life in prison.
