Race against time to find loving home for lurcher before he goes blind
The RSPCA is in a race against time to find an adorable lurcher his forever home before he goes blind.
Vets say two-year-old lurcher Elf only has between six and 12 months of sight left, despite his young age.
They say it is not clear what is causing the deterioration.
Now he is at the RSPCA Devon Branch’s Little Valley Animal Centre in Exeter where staff are desperate to get him settled in a new home before time runs out.
Heartbreakingly, they say he has not attracted much interest yet.
Merryn Walker, deputy centre manager, said: “We are so desperate to rehome him before his sight goes – and think Elf deserves the chance to see his loving new owners, while it is still possible.
“We want him to create a beautiful bond with his new family so he can trust them to be his eyesight when he heartbreakingly no longer has his. Sadly his eyesight is deteriorating rapidly so it really is a race against time.”
Merryn added that Elf seems to love everyone he meets.
“He will lean into you for a fuss,” said Merryn. “His favourite things are playing with his toys and zooming around fields. Elf is just so loving, he is very affectionate and people-oriented. He makes friends with new people really quickly, travels well, enjoys going out walking with volunteers and loves sofa cuddles.
“Elf will need to be the only pet in the home so he can be truly spoiled. He will walk nicely alongside other dog friends on lead though. He could live with older children who are understanding of his needs.
“We know the perfect home for our special boy is out there – so we’d urge prospective adopters to get in touch, before it is too late.”
