Queen Elizabeth’s attendance at a Christmas pantomime helped pave the way for her romantic future with Prince Philip, a news report has stated. The late monarch was taken to Windsor in 1941 during the war, where the idea for a panto came after they put on a concert with the Royal School in the town.

The concert was done to help raise money for the Royal Household Wool Fund, which sent warm items to the troops.

Her first panto was Cindrella in which the Salon Orchestra of The Royal Horse Guards was asked to “do” music.

The designs of the set were produced on rolls of wallpaper to adorn Windsor’s imposing Waterloo Chamber.

However, in 1943, it is believed that participation in the panto of Aladdin may have helped secure Elizabeth’s romantic future.

The Mirror reported that the panto was attended by Prince Philip and he was rather taken with the teen in tights that he had met a few years before.

Her Governess Marion Crawfie Crawford later revealed the 17-year-old Lilibet excitedly told her: “Who do you think is coming to see us act, Crawfie? Philip!”

She later said: “The pantomime went off very well.

“I have never known Lilibet more animated.

“There was a sparkle about her none of us had ever seen before.”

This is among the many special memories the late Queen had at the time of Christmas.

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip first met at Britannia Royal Naval College in 1939, where an 18-year-old cadet Philip was introduced to a 13-year-old Princess Elizabeth of England while she was touring the grounds.

From then, it is believed that the young royal never thought of anybody else.

The two began to exchange letters throughout the war years.

Upon his return from the Pacific theatre, his relationship with Queen Elizabeth blossomed.
