The first airing of the speech came in 1932 when King George V spoke to the nation via BBC radio from Sandringham, Norfolk. The maiden televised address took place in 1957, with the Queen addressing the nation on this day.

But now, Channel 4 hopes to move in for the broadcasting rights from the BBC, an insider has claimed.

The source said: “This is a bold and unprecedented move from Channel 4.

“But they are a public broadcaster, too, and don’t have any axes to grind.

“Bosses are continually looking to expand the broadcaster’s remit and give viewers fresh and unexpected programming.

“They’ve made it clear they would like to film the speech this year — especially if the Royals punish the Beeb and withdraw their rights, although that does seem unlikely.

“But the Royal family have shown they have backbone and won’t stand for much more nonsense.

“Channel 4 would definitely love to show the Queen’s speech this year should the BBC be punished again.”

Channel 4 often post their own alternative speech every year – with a parody of the Queen’s speech receiving around 200 complaints last year.

A spokesperson for Ofcom said: “We are assessing these complaints against our broadcasting rules, but are yet to decide whether or not to investigate.”

However, despite the amount of complaints, Channel 4 defended their decision to post the speech.

They told Metro: “It is very clear in the four-minute film that this is a parody of the Christmas Day address and viewers will be left in no doubt that it is not real.

“However, while the film is light-hearted, affectionate and comedic in tone, it carries a very important and timely message about trust and the ease with which convincing misinformation can be created and spread.

“This is part of a series of programmes examining the spread of misinformation and a Dispatches documentary, Deepfakes: Can You Believe Your Eyes, will further explore the emergence of deepfake technology on 28th December on Channel 4.”

The Deepfake Queen addressed the nation at the same time in which the real Queen spoke on BBC.

The fake Queen told the nation: “On reflection this year has been an utter s**t show.

“This year more than any other year, things are not what they seem.

“One must now mute oneself on Zoom while using the loo.”

It added: “I was so saddened by the departure of Harry and Meghan.

“There are few things more hurtful than someone telling you they prefer the company of Canadians.”

Ingrid Seward, royal commentator and expert, was disgusted by the broadcast by Channel 4.

The commentator said: “It is in really poor taste and didn’t look that funny.

“There are a lot of people you can ridicule – but not the Queen.

“This kind of thing would never have happened ten years ago.

“Channel 4 are using the Queen to get some publicity.”

A Channel 4 spokesperson said: “Channel 4 hasn’t approached the Palace. However if they would like to reach a different audience, we’d be happy to broadcast the Queen’s speech as part of the bumper line-up of shows that we have on Christmas Day – Terry Pratchett’s Abominable Snow Baby, Great British Bake Off and Gogglebox festive specials and, as ever, Home Alone 2.”
