Queen’s pal shares surprise comment about Prince Harry from top US official

A close friend of Queen Elizabeth II has shared the surprise comment made about Prince Harry in the US by a top government official she spoke to recently.

Lady Glenconner, a childhood friend of the late monarch and a lady-in-waiting for the Queen’s sister Princess Margaret, attended the historic Coronation of King Charles III at Westminster Abbey earlier this year.

The 91-year-old also played a vital role in the Queen’s own historic Coronation ceremony back in 1953 as she was one of the six maids of honor.

In June at the Coronation of King Charles III, the socialite said she sat next to former US presidential candidate and Secretary of State John Kerry.

She told broadcaster Gyles Brandreth at The Barnes Book Fest recently she asked the current US Climate Change envoy: “What do you think in America about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle?”

Lady Glenconner continued: “He said ‘We all feel very, very sorry for Harry. I think I can just leave it at that.'”

Elsewhere, the socialite also lashed out at Meghan Markle for thinking being in the Royal Family would be the same as being a film star.

She said the Duchess of Sussex believed she would be ‘riding around in a golden coach’ following her marriage to Prince Harry in May 2018 and had no idea what duties were expected of her in the Royal Family.

Lady Glenconner said: “I think the thing about Meghan was, she had no idea what was expected of her really.

“I think she just thought it was sort of like being another actress, you know. Riding around in a golden coach and everything like that.”

In early 2020, Harry and Meghan quit their roles as senior working members of the Royal Family and relocated to from the UK to the US. They currently live in Montecito, California.

They have looked to forge their own careers in the States, but have seen their popularity plunge in polls after making a string of bombshell claims against the Royal Family.

Harry’s relationship has also completely broken down, and he is understood not to have spoken to the likes of King Charles and Prince William since the Queen’s funeral in September 2022.

However, the King is reportedly showing signs he is “ready to reconcile” with Harry and Meghan but has been urged not to cave to a demand from the couple for an apology from the Royal Family.

Dr. Ed Owens, author of After Elizabeth: Can the Monarchy Save Itself? told GB News: ”He is demonstrating he is ready to reconcile and that ultimately, the onus is on them to make a decision as to whether they want to heal the wounds that have opened up between them and the rest of the Royal Family.

“The King has done that quite successfully so far. He’s held the moral high ground, he’s presented himself as a conciliator. That is the best way to maintain his reputation as a public figure.”
