Channel 5’s royal correspondent Simon Vigar delivered an update on Prince Philip and his time in hospital and said that the upcoming Oprah Winfrey interview with Prince Harry and Meghan was not on the radar for the Royal Family. Buckingham Palace also released a statement stating that the Duke of Edinburgh is recovering after heart surgery and is due to stay in the hospital for the next few days. The Oprah sit-down, which is due to air in the US on March 7, will focus on Meghan’s time as a royal, with trailers of the programme giving a glimpse of the topic the Duchess touched upon during her chat.
Speaking on the Jeremy Vine Show on Channel 5, Mr Vigar discussed the update on the Duke of Edinburgh and said: “The pre-existing heart condition, I’m assuming that the surgery that’s happened here yesterday is related to that.
“But some good news for the Royal Family that the Duke of Edinburgh underwent a successful procedure.
“And I can tell you, Jeremy, that all of the focus of the Royal family is on this place, not so much on trailer clips from California.”
It comes as a new trailer for the Oprah interview was released with Meghan claiming there was an effort by the Royal Family to “perpetuate falsehoods” about her.

In the clip, she is asked by Oprah: “How do you feel about the Palace hearing you speak your truth today?”
She replies: “I don’t know how they could expect that, after all of this time, we would still just be silent if there is an active role that The Firm is playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us.”
The new trailer also coincides with allegations made by former royal staff who say they were subject to bullying from the Duchess of Sussex.
The Times reported that Meghan “drove out” two personal aides who were subject to “humiliation” and “pressure”, claims a spokesman for Meghan Markle strongly denied.

The spokesman said: “Let’s just call this what it is – a calculated smear campaign based on misleading and harmful information.
“The Duchess is saddened by this latest attack on her character, particularly as someone who has been the target of bullying herself, and is deeply committed to supporting those who have experienced pain trauma.
“She is determined to continue her work building compassion around the and will keep striving to set an example for doing what is right and doing what is good.”
Buckingham Palace announced it would investigate the claims.

It said in a statement: “We are clearly very concerned about allegations in the Times following claims made by former staff of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
“Accordingly our HR team will look into the circumstances outlined in the article.
“Members of staff involved at the time, including those who have left the household, will be invited to participate to see if lessons can be learned.
“The royal household has had a dignity at work policy in place for a number of years and does not and will not tolerate bullying or harassment in the workplace.”
The two-hour interview will broadcast in the US on March 7 with ITV securing the rights to show the programme the day after.
