Queen worries about ‘heavy fines’ when travelling by the Royal Train
Queen worries about royal train being fined claims expert
The Queen, 94, loves to travel by the Royal Train but it is claimed she insists on knowing the departure time of the train in order to avoid fines. ITV Royal Rota’s Chris Ship and Lizzie Robinson discussed how the monarch can be “fined heavily” by Network Rail for delaying trains on the network. It comes as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge embarked on a 1,250-mile journey across the UK earlier this week using the Queen’s train.
Ms Robinson said: “It’s secure, efficient and effective at getting them from A to B.
“The Queen loves it, it’s her favourite mode of transport so it stays.”
Mr Ship added: “I was told some interesting things this week about how punctual the Queen wants the train to be.
“When she travels on it, she makes sure she knows exactly when it should be leaving and she’s there going ‘come on, come on, we should be going by now’.

“If the train’s late and delays trains on the rest of the network the royal train gets fined quite heavily by Network Rail.
“She neither wants to be late or end up with a huge fine.”
Ms Robinson said: “The good thing with the royals is they are never late for anything.”
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s whistle-stop tour of the country by royal train came to an end at Windsor Castle, where the Queen joined them in thanking local volunteers and key workers.
Kate Middleton's royal train tour discussed by experts
The monarch’s appearance was the first time she has been seen in public with the Prince of Wales and senior members of the monarchy en masse since before the coronavirus pandemic.
William and Kate’s trip has provoked veiled criticisms from Welsh and Scottish ministers, who raised suggestions about the timing of the visit while Covid cases were still prevalent and many parts of the UK were subject to strict Covid rules.
But Prime Minister Boris Johnson believes William and Kate’s tour was a “welcome morale boost”, No 10 said, after Downing Street officials initially refused to say it complied with coronavirus restrictions.

In wintry conditions, the Queen stood on the steps of the Equerry’s entrance in the castle’s quadrangle and listened as the Regent Hall Band of the Salvation Army, who are based in London’s Oxford Street, played Christmas Carols.
Socially distanced around her were Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, William and Kate, the Earl and Countess of Wessex and the Princess Royal – who had all arrived separately to the monarch.
Earlier, Welsh Health Minister Vaughan Gething had said he would prefer it if “no-one was having unnecessary visits” before William and Kate travelled to Cardiff Castle and met students.
As they chatted, William and Kate admitted they were struggling with Christmas plans, suggesting they had yet to decide who to spend the festive period with.
