The bombshell new book Finding Freedom makes fresh claims about tensions between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the Royal Family. But a source has claimed it will “open old wounds at a time when everyone wanted to move on”.
The source told Vanity Fair: “It’s going to open old wounds at a time when everyone wanted to move on.
“I think the person who will be most upset about it all is the Queen.”
The book by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand claims Meghan and Harry’s Sussex Royal website with details of their future plans launched when they announced their intention to step back as senior royals in January left the Queen “blindsided”.
A source is quoted as saying: “The element of surprise, the blindsiding of the Queen, for the other principals who are all very mindful of this, rightfully, it was deeply upsetting.”
“The family is very private and bringing it into the public domain, when they were told not to, hurt the Queen.
“It was laying out what the Sussexes wanted in a statement without consulting with Her Majesty first – and she’s the head of the institution.”
The book also claims Meghan and Harry felt their complaints were not taken seriously.

The authors write: “There were just a handful of people working at the palace they could trust.
“A friend of the couple’s referred to the old guard as ‘the vipers’.
“Meanwhile, a frustrated palace staffer described the Sussexes’ team as ‘the squeaky third wheel’ of the palace.”

The Sussexes even considered breaking protocol by springing a surprise visit on the Queen in January when they believed they were being blocked from seeing her, according to the book.
In another sensational claim, Harry is said to have been left furious after his older brother Prince William advised him to “take as much time as you need to get to know this girl”.
But Harry interpreted the words “this girl” as “snobbish”, the book alleges.
A source is quoted as saying: “Harry was pd off. Pd off that his brother would ask such a thing.
“Some felt it was an overreaction. But then, this sums them up as people — William, the calm and rational one, and Harry, who can’t help but take things far too personally.”
The book also claims there was no feud between Meghan and the Duchess of Cambridge.
Meghan hoped Kate would “reach out” to her when she started her romance with Harry and was left “disappointed” when she did not but she did not “lose sleep” over it, according to the book.
The authors claim the alleged rift between the Sussexes and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge was due to growing tensions between William and Harry.
The two couples hardly spoke at the Commonwealth service at Westminster Abbey in March, which was Meghan and Harry’s last royal engagement, despite not having seen each other since January, the book alleges.
A spokesman for Harry and Meghan said the couple did not contribute to the book, serialised by the Times and the Sunday Times, but did not deny the content of the extracts.
The spokesman said: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not interviewed and did not contribute to Finding Freedom.
“This book is based on the authors’ own experiences as members of the royal press corps and their own independent reporting.”
