According to the Mail on Sunday, Her Majesty has extended an invitation to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The event in 2022 will mark the Queen’s historic reign – celebrating 70 years of service.

A source familiar with the Jubilee plans told the Mail Harry and Meghan are planning to attend Trooping the Colour next June.

However, the source is uncertain whether the couple will join the monarch on the royal balcony at Buckingham Palace.

The source said: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been invited and I’m sure the Queen is very much looking forward to seeing them there.

“The balcony moment will be decided much nearer the time but there’s a limit to how many family members should be on it, and I would have thought that working Royals who contribute to the family would be higher on the list than the Sussexes.”

Experts suggest the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are looking to heal rifts after the couple unleashed a series of public attacks against the Firm.

Earlier this month, the couple made waves when they announced their daughter was named Lilibet in a touching nod to the Queen.

Royal commentator Katie Nicholl told ET the couple’s second child could be a rift healer.

She said: “I think everybody’s hope is that this little baby is going to be a rift healer.

“This family division has really gone on for a long time now.

“It is well over a year, it has been many, many months since Charles, the Queen and the Cambridges have seen Archie in the flesh.”

She added: “I think it is everybody’s hope that this little baby will be a peace offering in many ways.

“And that she will help bring this divided family back together”.

The celebratory event next year marks a special milestone in British history, as the Queen will become the first monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee.

The British monarch acceded to the throne on February 6, 1952 when she was just 25 years old.

The event will be celebrated with an extended bank holiday, from Thursday, June 2 to Sunday, June 5.

Buckingham Palace has said alongside Trooping the colour, Platinum Jubilee beacons would be lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories.
