Queen to find ‘mentor’ for Meghan Markle to stop Duchess from ‘slipping up’ – shock claim

Ms Markle has been vociferously condemned for her appearance at Wimbledon when her security team reportedly forbade the public from taking photos of the Royal, as well as for guest editing September’s Vogue magazine whilst insisting on privacy over her new-born son Archie Harrison. Nine News Australia’s reporter Samantha Heathwood said: “Queen Elizabeth has reportedly been searching for a mentor for her granddaughter-in-law Meghan Markle. And it looks like she could have made her pick; Sophie, Countless of Wessex is reportedly being encouraged by Her Majesty to take the Duchess of Sussex under her wing to help her avoid slipping up in the spotlight.

“The Countess is married to the Queen’s youngest son, Prince Edward, and is known to avoid attention from the media.”

Ms Heathwood dryly added: “Good luck with that one.”

The report comes from an unnamed source who spoke to Grazia magazine, prior to the criticism the Duchess’ has most recently had to deal with.

The source said: “The Queen likes the idea of Sophie being an unofficial mentor to Meghan.

“Sophie is often at Windsor taking the kids riding on the Queen’s horses and playing at the castle.

“It’s a quiet lifestyle, very much the kind Harry and Meghan want for their little one.”

Express.co.uk has approached Buckingham Palace for comment.

The Queen’s suggestion doesn’t come out of the blue, as Meghan and Sophie are believed to have bonded after spending time together at Royal Ascot last year.

Sophie and Prince Edward live at Bagshot Park in Windsor with their two children, 11-year-old James, Viscount Severn, and 15-year-old Lady Louise Windsor.

Meanwhile, Meghan Markle has been warned her activism through her work as Duchess of Sussex may create “problems” for the Royal Family.

The Duchess of Sussex has been a supporter of several charitable causes since joining the Royal Family through her marriage to Prince Harry in 2018.

But after the Duchess of Sussex guest-edited the September issue of British Vogue, Meghan was warned against diving too close to the “political sphere.”

Journalist Toby Young claimed the Duchess has been trying to make the Royal Family more aware of specific social issues.

Speaking to talkRADIO, Mr Young said: “The problem is his wife clearly has a particular political agenda – she is the woke Duchess and she sees it as her life’s work to make the Royal Family woke.

“For a member of the Royal Family to take such an inadvertently political stance is always a bad idea because they are funded by the taxpayers and therefore they have an obligation to remain above the political sphere.”

The Duke and Duchess already faced criticism last month after newly-published royal record revealed the couple had spent £2.5 million of taxpayers’ money to renovate their home in Windsor, Frogmore Cottage.

However, Meghan would not be the first member of the Royal Family to have delved into political issues, as Prince Charles was previously accused of undermining his position due to his interest in politics.

The Prince of Wales has never masked his interest on a variety of topics ranging from climate change to architecture, plunging the family into a decade-long debate between the Government and the public on the release of letters the Prince had sent to political figures.

Between 2005 and 2015, the Guardian newspaper attempted to secure the release of the so-called “black spider memos” documenting exchanges between Prince Charles and several ministers.

Royal author Katie Nicholl explained: “It was a scandal for the very simple reason that it appeared to show the Prince of Wales meddling.

“We don’t expect [members of the Royal Family] to be political, they’re not allowed to be political. Yet here was the future king meddling, as far as the Guardian was concerned, in matters that didn’t concern him.”

The Duchess of Sussex has announced she is to launch a clothing range aimed at supporting a charity empowering women to find employment.

Meghan has teamed up with leading high street retailers and designer Misha Nonoo, asking them to create a timeless series of outfits – known as a capsule collection – that can be worn in the workplace.
