Buckingham Palace has unveiled the full programme of events to mark the Queen’s 70-year reign. Celebrations will include a concert, the opening of the monarch’s private estates and a pudding competition, launching on Monday.
Fortum & Masons will launch the Platinum Pudding Competition to mark the occasion.
Recipes will be judged by an expert panel, including Dame Mary Berry.
Analysis of Google search data revealed that, following the announcement, searches for ‘ pudding recipe’ surged 733 percent.
This is eight times the average volume in just the first few hours, according to findings by kitchen equipment experts Maxima Kitchen Equipment.
A spokesperson said the surge “immediately highlights” the public interest in the celebrations and inspiration for the competition.
They added: “This competition serves as an engaging and delightful way to celebrate the beloved Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by uniting the nation and it will hopefully inspire a new generation of bakers to also get involved!”
It is hoped that the winning bake will be served at street parties across the country in honour of the Platinum Jubilee.
The judging panel includes Roger Pizey, executive pastry chef at Fortnum & Mason, TV baker Liam Charles and Buckingham Palace’s Head Chef Mark Flanagan LVO, among others.
If your recipe shows potential, you could be invited to the final round to ‘live bake’ for the judges to taste for themselves.
Dame Mary Berry said she is “thrilled” to be on the judging panel, working alongside “such a wonderful team of judges”.
Puddings will be ranked based on a number of criteria, including taste and if it is ‘perfect for home bakers’ and ‘fit for the Queen’.
