The Royal Family posted a series of snaps on their Twitter and Instagram accounts to mark the first day of spring. One of the pictures shows the sunrise over a lake in the palace’s garden.

The caption said: “Sunrise over the lake in the Buckingham Palace Garden.

“Today marks the first official day of spring, as we all look towards brighter days ahead.

“The garden at The Queen’s London residence sees much change over the course of a year.”

The palace shared a further three pictures with “more signs of spring”.

One of the images shows a tazetta daffodil, which has 11 flowers on a single stem.

Another is of pheasant’s eye daffodils in the garden’s meadows.

A final photo is of a curved path leading to the Rose Garden.

And from July to October, the palace is open to the public.

The monarch has spent much of the last year at Windsor Castle due to the pandemic with Prince Philip and a reduced household of staff dubbed HMS Bubble.

The Queen was reunited with the Duke of Edinburgh on Tuesday after his longest-ever hospital stay.

Philip, who turns 100 in June, underwent heart surgery for a pre-existing condition.
