Queen-shaped cloud emerged over Telford at moment her death was announced
Thousands of people have been moved to see a photograph taken hours after the Queen died yesterday, showing a cloud lit up by the sun in the shape of the monarch.
Almost everyone in Britain knows the shape of the Queen’s profile, whether that is from sending letters with stamps, spending banknotes or just watching her public moments.
So Leanne Bethell recognised the unusual cloud formation immediately while driving through Telford in the West Midlands with her daughter, 11, who pointed out the image on the road ahead.
The silhouette of the cloud appears to be wearing a hat, as the Queen often chose to do while carrying out her royal duties.
She posted on Facebook: ‘Driving home and Lacey starts shouting OMG! I panicked… Then she pointed this image out in the clouds. The Queen. Rest in peace.’
Her post immediately gained attention, and since she posted it just after 7pm yesterday it has now been shared almost 40,000 times.

Some commented to say they had also seen the unusual cloud in the sky, with one woman writing: ‘It’s not coincidence. My lad saw this and sent me a photo, he isn’t the kind to post, and I wouldn’t call him a royalist by any means, but he and his fiance knew what they saw.’
Another said: ‘I saw this rainbows first then this she def showed her passing.’
Yesterday, many commented on a poignant double rainbow which appeared over Buckingham Palace moments before the Queen’s death was announced.
A rainbow also appeared at Windsor Castle, her other official residence in London.
Writing under Leanne’s post, many people tagged friends and family. Some laughed at the post or suggested it could be photoshopped, but the majority replying said they were moved by the images.
One woman said it was: ‘So amazing. We serve a mighty God who loves and cares for all of us all over this world. He knows she was loved.’
Another said she believed it showed that ‘certainly the Queen was on her way to meet her beloved husband’ Prince Philip, who died in April 2021 aged 99.
The royal family announced that the Queen had died at around 6.30pm last night, having earlier said that she was under medical supervision on doctors’ advice.
She was the first British monarch in history to reach her Platinum Jubilee, and died just three months after the national celebrations in June celebrating her 70 years on the throne.
