The Monarch has flown up by helicopter to the estate from Windsor Castle and is expected to spend the weekend here. Doctors had given the 95-year-old the all-clear to make the trip after Her Majesty was told to rest due to tiredness.

The Queen has been resting over several days at Windsor Castle on the advice of these doctors.

But this trip to Sandringham will no doubt be an emotional one for Her Majesty, with it being the first visit to the estate since the death of her loving husband Philip.

Philip had previously lived at Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate after his retirement in 2017.

But the royals are no stranger to spending time at the estate.

Every year at Christmas, the royal family gather at the estate to spend time together during the festive period, in what is said to be a highlight for the whole family.

During this time, the whole family spends time decorating the Christmas tree, exchanging gifts, attending church and enjoying a traditional Christmas lunch.

But much like the rest of the country, Covid restrictions meant that the joyous occasion with them all would not be possible last year.

Sandringham Estate has been owned by the royal family for a very long time, dating right back to 1862.

The estate covers around 20,000 acres of land in the Norfolk countryside.

The Queen is said to be “delighted” to be returning to the estate for the first time since Prince Philip’s passing.

Her Majesty was recently forced to miss the COP26 summit in Glasgow on the advice of doctors, with other members of the family attending as well.

Prince William and Prince Charles among other notable names within the family are in attendance at the summit.

But the 95-year-old has cancelled all official visits recently in hope that she will be able to attend the ceremony on Remembrance Sunday.

Prince Philip’s love for Sandringham was recently discussed in a documentary by Prince William.

The 39-year-old said: “Sandringham has always been a really, really important part of his life.

“He was tasked with being the warden, managing the estate from 1952.

“I think for him, being up here, was an escape.

“He likes the fact that he’s been able to have an impact here…

“He’s planted over 40 kilometres of hedge land, 45 woods, over two million trees.

“These things really matter to the makeup of the surrounding area.”
