Queen ‘rapidly’ learning new skill from Kate and William amid ‘hectic’ royal home life

Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, and Prince William revealed all sorts of interesting details in a recent interview with the BBC. The royal couple praised NHS frontline staff and spoke about the mental health challenges of the coronavirus lockdown. They also provided an insight into a new skill they are teaching the older members of the Royal Family, which could be the Queen, according to ITV News Royal Editor Chris Ship and Royal Rota podcast producer Lizzie Robinson.

Mr Ship told listeners: “They didn’t say who, but they spoke about how they’re trying to get older members of the family up to speed with technology.

“I wonder whether it’s the Queen learning rapidly how to use Zoom.”

Ms Robinson revealed more: “They did say how the family had enjoyed staying in touch with them and vice versa.

“But they also mentioned that it gets a little bit hectic with a two-year-old who often wants to take the phone away and likes pressing the red button.”

Prince William also described how “pressure, stress and isolation” had been building up for many people during isolation.

He told the BBC: “If we are going to go forward with more time spent in lockdown, then there is going to be an ever-increasing need for people to look after their mental health and take it seriously and also know where to go to get the support they might need.

“It’s important that other people aren’t forgotten and those who do need help, and do need support, and haven’t necessarily ever had to think about their mental well-being, start to do that in this weird climate we’re in.

“We’re not superhuman, any of us. So to be able to manage those emotions and that feeling is going to take some time after all this is over as well.”

Kate added: “While leaving the house for one form of exercise a day is hugely important we mustn’t forget our mental well-being as well.

“Making sure you’re reaching out to those people around you that you have access to – even if it’s over the phone or online to really make sure you have those conversations.”

The couple wants to encourage people to talk to each other using technology and also use online tools such as NHS Every Mind Matters to help them during the coronavirus pandemic.

Ms Robinson told Royal Rota listeners about a new priority for the Cambridges: “Kate and William have supported a new mental health project.

“This is bringing leading mental health charities together to provide support to those working on the frontline.

“That project is called ‘Our Frontline’.

“The Royal Foundation has joined up with Minds, Samaritans, Shout and Hospice UK.

“William said that he and Kate will do all they can to support this new project with its work.”
