Controversy has again gravitated towards Meghan and Harry after claims that the Queen had met their new daughter, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, via video call were thrown into question. Friends of the pair made the claim that the new-born had featured in a call with the monarch. But Palace insiders quickly denied that any such meeting had taken place.

It is yet another dramatic turn of events for the Royal Family as reports now suggest the Queen is willing to depart from her family’s entrenched policy of “never complain, never explain”, according to The Mail on Sunday.

Maureen Callahan, writing in the New York Post, said the events have pushed the Queen to make her opposition to Meghan and Harry’s actions publicly known.

She wrote: “Casting aside their choice of Diana as a middle name (who could possibly begrudge them that?) naming their only daughter after the woman whom they deride as the epitome of racism, colonialism and, by extension, mean mommydom is odd, right?

“Except when you consider the palace’s recent demotion of Haz and Megs on the official royal website.

“Once listed just below William and Kate, Harry and Meghan were kicked all the way to the bottom, below even the Epstein-associated Prince Andrew.

“Quietly but clearly, the Queen is making it known she has no more tolerance for these two.”

On the official Royal Family website, Meghan and Harry sit fifth and sixth from the bottom out of 16 listed members.

The Queen’s father, King George VI, first gave her the nickname “Lilibet” after joking she could not say Elizabeth as a child.

The late Prince Philip also adopted it.

Meghan and Harry’s daughter arrived earlier this month.

A statement on the couple’s website read: “Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet.

“Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honour her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales.”

While the turbulence of the Meghan and Harry saga continues, the Royal Family keep up with official duties.

Over the weekend, the Queen marked her official birthday – Trooping the Colour – alone for the first time in over 70 years.

The scaled-back version of the celebration was held in the quadrangle of Windsor Castle for the 95-year-old monarch for the second year running due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The event was held two days after what would have been Philip’s 100th birthday.
