Queen has had Corgis her whole life claims expert in 2018

The Queen has spent little time in public with her family over the last year, with few visits outside her Windsor Castle bolthole. Few glimpses of the monarch have come either when she traverses between her various residences or highly organised events. As such, the public hasn’t seen any of her loyal pets which often accompany her.

The Queen’s family has changed several times during her nearly 70-year-long reign.

But she remains most famous for her corgis, as a gaggle of the breed would often follow her around in public and nip on people’s heels.

The Queen once had a brood of 30, but now she is allegedly down to just one.

The Royal Family started owning Pembroke Welsh corgis when the Queen was a child, and her line of canines blossomed with one named Susan.

The monarch received Susan as a princess on her 18th birthday in 1944.

She has raised 30 of Susan’s descendants since then, but the last one died in 2018.

Neither of the Queen’s remaining dogs were purebred corgis.

Willow was the final pure corgi to die in 2018, leaving her with two dogs named Vulcan and Candy.

The dogs were both of a breed known as a dorgi, one with exclusively royal roots.

Dorgis are a corgi-dachshund cross she bred herself, according to Vanity Fair.

The breed is a mix of one of her corgis with her late sister Princess Margaret’s dachshund Pipkin.

Vanity Fair added the breed was an accident and emerged when the two dogs mated in 1971.

Candy is the last remaining dog after The Sun reported Vulcan died late last year.

The Queen has allegedly ceased her breeding efforts, as she doesn’t want any dogs to survive her.

Willow’s death in 2018 affected her so much that it made her swear off breeding.

A Buckingham Palace source told the Daily Mail it was “like the end of an era”.

They said: “She has mourned every one of her corgis over the years, but she has been more upset about Willow’s death than any of them.

“It is probably because Willow was the last link to her parents and a pastime that goes back to her own childhood. It really does feel like the end of an era.”
