Queen Letizia pays sweet tribute to daughter Leonor with jewellery choice

Queen Letizia’s outfit of the day was particularly special today, as it was not only her daughter Princess Leonor’s 18th birthday but also the day she entered adult royal life as heir to the throne of Spain.
The Queen and the rest of the Spanish Royal Family gathered at the Parliament in Madrid to watch Leonor swear allegiance to the constitution, and she is now officially able to act as Queen Regent should her father King Felipe VI become incapacitated.
On the day Letizia chose a teal Carolina Herrera dress from the Autumn/Winter 2013 collection, a timeless classic which she has been snapped in before.
For her accessories she chose tried and tested brand Magrit for a blue clutch and beige MARIA pumps, which are currently on sale for €275 (£239.34).
But it was the Bulgari earrings that were particularly special, as the jewels had been given to her in 2005 to mark Leonor’s birth 18 years ago today.

The Spanish Queen later covered up in the chilly autumnal Madrid air in another Carolina Herrera item, this time a tan fur-trimmed cape which was also a re-wear.
Following in her mother’s stylish footsteps Leonor chose a white trouser suit for the occasion, ensuring she looked chic yet appropriate as all eyes were on her.
This outfit in turn sweetly echoed Letizia, as it looked remarkably similar to the suit worn by the Queen for the formal ceremony that followed her engagement to the then-Prince Felipe.

As Leonor stepped up to make her address to the assembled politicians, the 18-year-old touchingly turned to her mother Queen Letizia and younger sister Infanta Sofia for support.
Leonor was only 13 when she gave her first public address, and her training clearly showed as she delivered her words without a falter.
After concluding her speech she kissed her parents on the cheek, while outside the streets of Madrid were filled with people cheering and celebrating the achievements of the young Princess.
To celebrate her birthday Leonor joined her family for a reception being held at the Royal Palace in Madrid, before her whole family gathered to celebrate with her at the El Pardo Royal Palace just outside the capital.
Although she is the Spanish heir Leonor has a touching link to the UK, as in May she graduated from UWC Atlantic, a boarding school in the Vale of Glamorgan in Wales where she was studying for her International Baccalaureate.
The Princess has now begun a three-year course at an army academy in Zaragoza, where she is undertaking training to become an officer.
